Human Rights Violations in Conflict Zones: Unmasking Injustice

Conflict zones are areas filled with political and international violence. There can be a breakdown of law and order as well as instability in these sections. Still, the worst part of conflict zones is how human beings are treated as mere objects and caught in the crossfire. Quite often, these humans are the reason behind the conflict leading to ethical cleansing or genocide, which are horrendous crimes in the face of humanity.

Undoubtedly, addressing human rights violations holds immense significance. However, very few people are inquisitive in even talking about this. Staying silent in the face of such injustice is immoral and disturbing to global security and safety. So, only by providing equal rights to all humans can we solve this growing issue, or humanity will vanish from the face of the earth.

What Are These Conflict Zones

Any place where human rights are violated and violence is practiced without any law and order becomes a conflict zone. Military assets like armed soldiers are commonly found in these regions, and the government takes little to no action in solving the disputes going on in these areas. These conflict zones are not only present because of some national political issues, but they can also take place due to invasion by foreign groups. When neighboring countries decide to colonize another country, the victimized nation becomes vulnerable. The most prominent feature that defines any conflict zone is the consistent threat to the life of human beings when they have to go as far as building bunkers to safeguard themselves.

There are several features that trigger conflicts among people; some of them are typical disputes over property, and some can be as intense as religious disputes. On the other hand, lack of resources, poverty, and inequality can also be the reason behind such conflicts. But as we discussed, foreign invasion tends to be a prominent reason behind this, specifically when other countries decide to colonize a single country.

Conflict zones in the world

The Syrian Civil War in 2011 is a well-known benchmark of conflict zones. Other examples include the ongoing war in Yemen and the never-ending dispute between Israel and Palestine over territory.

Each of these conflicts has equally contributed to mankind’s suffering and displacement. The Democratic Republic of Congo has also been a target of such disputes, and Afghanistan has been under conflict for decades. These are a few examples of such zones and how challenging they can be to solve.

Degradation of Human Rights in Conflict Zones

Mankind is subject to infinite atrocities due to the conflicts they have to face torture and violence repeatedly. They are often expelled from their residence, which leaves them homeless and vulnerable due to lack of protection. Women and children become prey to heinous crimes like sexual torture and violence, which rob them of their integrity and dignity.

Furthermore, child labor is often used since the adults are either arrested or killed, leaving such high responsibilities in their tiny hands. While older adults already have compromised health, the healthcare system is also demolished, and no physicians are available to provide first aid.

Unfortunately, these offences do not only damage the mental and physical health of humans, but they also cause long-term annihilation to these territories.

After WW2, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was embraced in order to defend basic human rights. UDHR functions as a document to comprehend how every human being deserves freedom in every aspect of his/her life. Regardless of where people come from, the conflict zones will have an equal impact on their mental health; therefore, they deserve equal rights. In this case, the UDHR has been a guideline to assess how rights are violated in such regions and what measures should be taken to revive human dignity.

Significance of protecting human rights

The importance of addressing the violations of human rights can not be questioned. This matter is not just a moral need but also pivotal to global stability. Therefore, if these violations are not immediately addressed, there is a high chance that mankind will never see peace. People in power inflict harm, so holding them accountable for their deeds is imperative.

Taking urgent and proper measures to correct the harm and resolve conflicts can be of high value. In this way, dignity and peace will be restored, and human beings will be granted shelter from such atrocities.

People Responsible For Conflict Zones

What used to be a peaceful region where people went about their day without a worry in the world becomes a victim of national or international dispute. It is obvious that the people behind these atrocities have a lot of power that they are not using well. Some of them utilize force to take over a territory like rebels or armed groups. Some are government officials who use soldiers to calm down protests and riots.

As a light of hope, many civilians and non-government officials make efforts to advocate peace in these regions. They help dismiss rumours and false information by raising their voice and helping their people. As a result, several humanitarian organizations play their role in spreading and reviving peace. Media also aids in spreading the news about the atrocities to the world, which brings donations and funds from other countries.

Barriers and Challenges of Conflict Zones

For the sake of justice, there should be no exemption from punishment for those people who are instigating violations. More often, these violators escape the rule of law and accountability, which leaves victims helpless. When justice is not given, it only serves as a welcome notice for further violations.

On the other hand, humanitarian organizations that are trying to aid face difficulties in accessing these regions. Parties involved in these conflicts can cause obstructions in the path of help, or there can be safety reasons which stop such platforms from reaching. When relief is not provided on time, the death toll starts increasing.

Bottom Line on Human Rights Violations in Conflict Zones

The world sees a new conflict zone yearly, while the previous ones are not even resolved. Such complications just add insult to the injuries of victims who are often left helpless. This requires immediate action so that people can live with honour and dignity without facing more atrocities. If human rights are not restored, the world will never be at peace, and mankind will only suffer until the end.

Humanitarian organizations must always be ready to help people without being biased. As soon as a region gets under the control of armed forces, humans are displaced and harmed with no first aid. They go without eating for several days, increasing havoc and depriving them of water.

Undoubtedly, these violations need to stop immediately, and governments should care about their people when they are in conflict. Innocent lives are lost, and to prevent that, human rights should be restored so people are aware of what they deserve. Violators should be subjected to extreme punishments so no one should dare to harm others.
